Jon Thomson - Senior Project Manager

Jon obtained his engineering qualifications whilst working for The Electricity Trust of South Australia, after completing an apprenticeship in Fitting & Turning. During this time he worked as Turbine maintenance fitter, Team Leader Special Projects, and later as Gas & Steam Turbine Plant Foreman, which gave him an extensive background in Power Station operations, maintenance and supervision.

He left ETSA to pursue a career in Technical Sales, specialising in industrial pump equipment, and it was through this his interest in improving process pumping systems grew, in addition to expanding his knowledge of the technical aspects of supply, installation and maintenance of rotating plant and processing equipment in the industrial, mining and water treatment sectors.

Realising there was more to the process than just pumps & valves, but being limited by the constraints of working as a Sales Manager for Pumps, Jon then partnered with a long term friend to start their own business specialising in Pumps and related engineering equipment.

The requirements of owning and operating a successful Engineering business required mastering a number of important skills ranging from staff recruitment, management & OH&S, administration & clerical functions.

However it was Jon’s broad experience in Technical analysis and design, equipment fault finding and project management, which assisted the business to complete a diverse array of projects for major customers including BHP, Nyrstar, Heathgate Resources, SA Water/United Water, AGL, several wineries and numerous Consulting Engineering companies.Jon brings to GJC Engineers a hands on Engineering and supervision background, coupled with diverse heavy industry experience, along with professional people skills.
